This feature is available in img2img mode, which is activated automatically as soon as you paste a valid image URL in the Reference image (url) field. The Creativity slider then appears right below it.

It lets you control how much the AI is allowed to deviate from your reference image during generation.

How it works

The slider ranges from 0% to 100%, in steps of 5%. The default value is 60%.

  • 0%: the AI stays maximally faithful to your reference image.
  • 100%: the reference is used only as a loose guide; the AI is free to reinterpret everything through your prompt.

Internally, the slider value is converted to the denoising strength used by the image engine (slider value divided by 100).

Recommended ranges

Low, 20% to 40% (faithful)

The AI keeps the character, pose, composition and style very close to your reference. Use this when:

  • Your reference is already close to the final look you want.
  • You only need to refine details, clean up lines, or tweak colors.
  • You are iterating on an existing piece and want small controlled changes.

Balanced, 50% to 70% (default 60%)

The AI keeps the overall composition, pose and general style of the reference, but reinterprets details, textures and lighting through your prompt. This is the recommended starting point for most img2img generations.

High, 80% to 100% (creative)

The reference is used mostly as a loose framing guide. The AI will significantly change the subject, style or atmosphere. Use this when:

  • Your reference is a rough sketch you want turned into a finished illustration.
  • You want to keep a similar framing but change the character or species entirely.
  • You want a full reinterpretation of the scene.

Tips

  • Cleaning up a rough sketch: try 75% to 85%.
  • Changing outfit or colors on an existing character: try 40% to 55%.
  • Full re-imagining of a scene: go 85%+.
  • If the result ignores your reference: lower the value.
  • If the result looks almost identical to the reference: raise the value.

Good to know

  • The Creativity value applies only to the current generation. It is not stored with the image.
  • When you are in img2img mode (a reference URL is set), Samples is locked to 1 and the Upscaler is disabled, so you can iterate faster on the slider value.
  • The slider disappears as soon as you clear the reference URL, and standard text-to-image generation resumes.
